I can't be definite, but I'm pretty sure this was the first tactical RPG I played. It's called tactical for a reason - if you don't watch it, it can get very frustrating, it's incredibly easy for characters - or even weapons and armor - to go away forever. This is one you better save often and expect to retry battles. Yet it's also very rewarding.
