"Wipeout"

As impressive as Ridge Racer was at the time, it was this title that really captured the imagination; the fully 3D tracks that rolled and looped around a beautifully realised futuristic world, the cutting edge design by Designer's Republic, the CD quality music by "proper" bands and the physics that had a real sense of speed, gravity and momentum. Perhaps a little unforgiving for novices - the final track is unnecessarily hard making access to the faster levels painfully difficult - but Wipeout showed us all what the PlayStation was truly capable of.
