Deck the Halls with Tentacles

Cthulhu Saves Christmas is an old-school throw-back turned-based parody RPG done right. This games is a prequel to Cthulhu Saves the World. Once again, Cthulhu loses his powers and embarks on a quest to save Christmas in the hopes Santa Claus can give him his powers back as a gift. The narrative is hilariously twisted with remarks and comments from Cthulhu, combined with plenty of festive (or not so festive) cheer.
Presentation
The game is built with 16-bit graphics that captures the essence of classic RPGs. The pixel art is vibrant and detailed, bringing both the otherworldly terrors and Christmas-themed environments to life. The soundtrack is a standout feature, seamlessly blending eerie tones with festive melodies. The mix of dark and light elements in the visuals and music enhances the overall experience, creating a visually appealing and atmospheric world.
Gameplay
Cthulhu Saves Christmas adopts a turn-based RPG system with a modern twist. The combat mechanics are intuitive, allowing for strategic depth without overwhelming players. The inclusion of a sanity and unite system adds an interesting layer to battles, as characters can build up abilities and join together to deal larger blows.
Originality
This game cleverly combines Cthulhu horrors with holiday cheer. The premise of Cthulhu saving Santa and Christmas is truly original. The game's quirky humor and creative approach to storytelling sets it apart from more conventional RPGs.
Replay Value
Cthulhu Saves Christmas is a short game. There could be some replay value with the relationship building you have to perform in town in-between dungeons fighting the evils of Christmas like Krampus, Mari Lwyd, and other Christmas villains. You choose what relationships to build, and rewards you get. The dialogs and stories do unfold differently based on your choices. So, there is some replay value, probably only around Christmas time.
Recommendation
Cthulhu Saves Christmas is an unexpected gem that successfully marries Cthulhu’s desires to destroy the world with holiday festivities and cheer. Cthulhu’s rude, but witty remarks combined with his sarcastic personality makes this casual RPG fun to play around Christmas when you have some free time. Be sure to check it out.
