Artistic Puzzle Platformer
Nick - wrote on 08/10/19
LIMBO is an artistically unique indie platformer with simplistic black and white visuals, no music, but intentional well placed sounds. The story is a bit of an mysterious unknown, probably intentionally open for interpretation. All we know for sure is you are playing a boy who appears to be looking for a girl. Did he get lost? Is he dreaming? You decide.
Presentation
This game is known for being an artistic indie platformer, making use of black and white graphics, silhouettes, and lighting elements, to provide a mysterious ambiance.
Gameplay
LIMBO is a puzzle platformer, one that you will not get through without dying many, many times. There are many puzzles you have to discover, die, and replay in order to figure out, and then move on to the next and repeat this process. Game control does play a small role, which can lead to some frustration, but once you know the puzzles, it is fairly easy to beat the game. It's fairly hard to beat the game without dying, even after you know all the puzzles.
Originality
This platformer is set apart by its artistic black and white visuals and unique puzzles. It got its popularity as being "art".
Replay Value
In order to get all of the achievements, you'll have to complete the game in one sitting with five or less deaths. There are also some Easter eggs you have find and collect. I also found myself speed running this game. There isn't a strong following by the speed running community, but the few dedicated individuals do have some impressive times. First place is currently just over 39 minutes. My goal is sub-50.
Recommendation
If you haven't played this game, play it. It's a short game, capable of being beat in roughly 3-5 hours. Wait for a sale, you can get this game very cheap, even free.
