Welcome back to another look into the near future! Every August, I’m another year older and another year more jaded and disappointed by the games industry. As this relatively mild Summer Game Drought draws to an end, let’s take a look at what we’re getting before the Holiday Rush starts… in September.
Ugh. Shovelware. Sony is getting an exclusive new ‘Hatsune Miku’ title, PS4 and XBONE are getting a licensed “Attack on Titan” game based on the manga/anime of the same name, and the 3DS is getting a… thing… called “Style Savvy: Fashion Forward” that can’t be ANYTHING but shovelware. We’re also starting to see the obligatory annual entries dripping out for certain sports and racing franchises. Currently it’s just a new ‘Madden’ and a new ‘F1,’ but more will follow, as they do every year.
Ugh. Ports and remasters. “Resident Evil 4” and “Assetto Corsa” are coming to the XBONE and PS4, while the PS4 is getting “Among the Sleep” and an Epic Combo Edition of “OlliOlli.” PC is getting a lot of ports from various consoles: “State of Decay,” “Ray Gigant,” “XBlaze Lost: Memories,” and the excellent “Little King’s Story” are all crossing over.
Only three legit multi-plats are coming in August, and I’m stretching the use of the term ‘legit’ for a couple of them. Rock-looking simulator, “No Man’s Sky” is coming to PC and PS4, and is certain to disappoint. The latest ‘Deus Ex’ title, “Mankind Divided” looks like the best bet for the month. Finaly, “Tumblestone,” a no-budget generic puzzler looks like it would feel right at home with the shovelware.
Exclusives are looking pretty dismal for August. Sony is getting “God Eater 2” and “King of Fighters 14” for PS4, along with the disturbing loli-shooting simulator, “Gal Gun: Double Peace” on PS4 and Vita (this is the game with a pricy DLC that allows you to see through the lolis’ clothing). Microsoft it bringing more “Killer Instinct” to the XBONE and Windows 10. Nintendo is content to keep ignoring the WiiU, but has both third-party “Corpse Party” and first-party “Metroid: Federation Force” coming for 3DS (and, boy, does “Federation Force” look like a Federation Farce).
Once I finally get through all of the previous ‘Deus Ex’ games in my backlog, if I like them, I’ll pick up “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.” If I don’t… meh. I’ll throw some (not much, but some) money at the PC port of “Little King’s Story” because it was one of the best games of the 7th Gen and needs some more love and attention, but other than that, nothing catches my eye. Astute readers might wonder why I don’t care about “No Man’s Sky” after listing it as ‘Not Sure if Want’ during multiple E3s. Well, after seeing more info about the game, it went from ‘Not Sure if Want’ to ‘Do Not Want’ pretty quickly.
Backlog Embiggened: +1 (maybe)

Complete Editions aren't distinct games unless they are appearing on a new platform exclusively in that edition. I already have Witcher 3 on my wishlist, and have for months.

Despite the fact I heard there was going to be no Game of the Year edition. Witcher 3 is indeed getting a "Complete Edition" coming out August 30th and Corpse Party has since been pushed to October - +1 for Witcher 3 Complete - at least until the price drops.
