Who Wants to Set a New Guinness World Record for Marathon Gaming?

I like to think that I'm pretty passionate about gaming. I did sink over just over 240 hours worth of time into Skyrim, earning the Platinum trophy. However, that was over the course of several months time. Imagine me doing that same feat in one continuous play through. It would take that kind of dedication, effort (and, I imagine just a hint of madness) to match the efforts of one Okan Kaya.

Seems this Australian was so excited for the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops II that he not just broke the old record, he obliterated it. Luckily, Guinness has rules that accompany such a feat: that is, one is allowed a 10 minute break every hour - and any accumulated time can be carried over. That means you don't have to worry about winding up like this or this or this. That's right - support and rules are there to keep you alive, (relatively) healthy and sane. But there are a few things holding me back.

For one, I can't honestly think of a game I would want to play for over 135 hours straight. Even with 10 minute breaks - that's over four days worth of continuous gaming. Heck, most games I would play probably wouldn't last that long (I wonder if you could play multiple games?). Plus, I'm not so keen on online multiplayer, so that's another hit. Also, ask around here and people will let you know I'm not the best person as staying, you know, awake. I doubt stimulants are allowed and even then, that would only give you so much of an edge before you crashed even harder. I usually top out at 2-3 hours at a time before it's time to move on. I'm sure I've gone on binges - but nothing approaching the level of Mr. Kaya.

I'm honestly not sure whether I should be in awe of the man or aghast at his accomplishment. But you know it's only a matter of time before someone tops him. I wonder if there is a limit to how long someone can last - even with 10 minute breaks I would have to assume that eventually lack of sleep would catch up and you would start to hallucinate (or simply fall over). Sure, keeping hydrated, fed and mobile is important - but it has to eventually top off. I wonder if you could go two weeks - a month? Egad, with how competitive some gamers are, I fear where this could end. I don't think I'm marathon gaming material - but if anyone's willing to give it a shot, you have my support!

Something tells me there's a perfectly insane American contemplating staying awake (minus the breaks) for a couple weeks at least. One has to wonder how many people actually break this record on a regular basis without even trying... now that's a scary thought.

I'm honestly surprised the guy is an Aussie and not a Yank. Usually Americans are the only ones who are obsessed with competition to the point that they'd go on a binge like this to set a new World Record... an incredibly pointless World Record to boot!
