The original futuristic racer, F-Zero has obviously been very influential and had some ground breaking ideas. The graphics are colourful but rather flat and featureless and the knockout format can lead to some frustrating "stuck on the same track forEVER" issues, but it's still a fast and slick racer that's worth a spin.

Fast = Good

F-Zero took a little bit of a different approach to racing games. The faster the better!...It seems like other racing games should have done this, too, but F-Zero did it really well. It felt like you were going really fast.
The futuristic cars, the music, and the levels were great. Leaping and the patches that slowed you down added a little extra to the game. It did get a bit difficult at times, because your car can blow up if you hit too many walls and cars, but it sure was a heck of a lot of fun.
This game is right up there with Super Mario Kart as the best racing game on the SNES.

A Good Racing Game

I admit that I'm not much of a fan of racing games, but I actually liked this one quite a bit. I found the controls were actually decent (for a change), and the levels pleasing to the eye. Graphics were excellent for an early SNES game. The music, especially, was exceptional. My biggest complaint was that there seems to be one car superior to all the others (the purple one), as it has the best handling and the best top speed.
