A kind of "below stairs" story set in the same world as Halo 3, you fill the combat boots of each of a squad of grunts fighting on the front line of Earth's defence against the Covenant invaders. It is not as brash and operatic as the previous games, feeling more like a Call Of Duty war game as you sneak through the atmospherically deserted city streets using hit and run tactics and scanning the rooftops for snipers. Extremely atmospheric with a cool story employing a disjointed timeline that works really well, it may not be the measure of the original Halo 3 but it's a nice change of pace.
