Should Never Have Been Born at All

I don't even feel like writing a regular review for this game, so let's just be blunt - this fails pretty much all across the board. Other than the retro graphic feel, the game is mess - unless you like grinding for days upon days - good luck affording a decent weapon or armor. The crafting system is a mess, the characters are broken, the combat is tedious, the level system inconsistent and at certain times it's pretty much a given you're going to die (luckily to can respawn - but it penalizes you).
We couldn't even beat the last boss - not even with help - because our levels and equipment were crap - and he uses a variety of cheap moves. At least the game never crashed on us (unlike some others I could mention *cough* Torchlight II *cough*) but the game is so simple, it doesn't take much to run it.
The story tries to shake things up, but it is so bare-bones and terribly scripted that you will probably just skip over the text anyways. The four classes range from highly useful (I was the Monk - the healer and therefore one of the most important) to nigh useless (Nelson endlessly complained about how terrible his warrior was compared to everyone else). You level up your characters by completing the various chapters and depending on how well you do, you are awarded a set amount of points. On one level we were lucky enough to hit the 100% mark - and bonus - but for most of them we settled for the bare minimum of 50% (and 50 points).
Most levels have some incredibly stupid requirement to reach your 100% goal - like avoiding being hit or some other terrible thing. For people who like challenging games for the sake of being challenging - go for it. However, I'm not one of those people - the game is incredibly short, if you don't like punishing yourself (two weeks is all it took to get to the final boss) - but even that short time was enough for me to know this game is not for me. If you pick it up for cheap, you might not regret it but for those who paid full price, woe is them.
