Welcome back to another installment of the MeltedJoystick Review Round-Up. Here’s what our staff has reviewed since last time:
Nelson’s Reviews:
To quote the late, great George Harrison’s song, it’s been a long, cold, lonely winter. As such, the weather has been perfect for staying inside and playing videogames! Yet, somehow, the MJ staff didn’t manage to complete a single co-op game, despite starting “Borderlands 2” and “Diablo 3.” This quarter, I focused mostly on playing the variety of the cheap Indie games I have bought on Steam recently. At the same time, I’ve had an itch for a really in-depth Sandbox game, which “Dragon’s Dogma” and “Terraria” didn’t quite scratch. Nearly 200 hours into “Skyrim,” I’m not sure if it’s scratching the itch either, but we won’t know until next quarter.
“Guacamelee: Gold Edition” – 4/5
“Terraria” – 3/5
“The Temple of Elemental Evil” – 3/5
“Evoland” – 4/5
“Ittle Dew” – 4/5
“Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen” – 3.5/5
“Call of Juarez: Gunslinger” – 4/5
“Talisman Prologue” – 2/5
“Tobe’s Vertical Adventure” – 2.5/5
Chris’ Reviews:
Chris diverted his attention from his PS3 to his Steam account this quarter… well for the most part. He spent most of the Winter quarter concurrently playing “Grand Theft Auto 5” and “Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale” (he only finished one of them, though). If anyone needs proof of Chris’ insanity, I think his combined interest in moe lolis running an RPG item shop and drugged-out sociopaths going on crime sprees should be Exhibit A.
“Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale” – 3.5/5
“Dungeon Siege III” – 2.5/5
“Tomb Raider (2013)” – 4/5
“Gone Home” – 4/5
“RAGE” – 3.5/5
Featured User Review:
This quarter’s featured user review winner is Jonzor (again), for his snark-laden review of “Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light.” This review was a joy to read, as Jonzor did a spectacular job of laying out what he expects from the turn-based RPG genre, then pointing out how the game delivers those features in the worst, most cumbersome, and completely WRONG way possible.

Also - if you could combine moe lolis running an item shop with sociopaths going on a crime spree it might be the greatest game EVER. And also loot. Lots of loot. But with customization too. We'll call it Grand Theft Borderlands: Harvest Moon of Blood

I tried to get my review for Outlast up in time - if you want to include it here, great, if not - save it for the next round.
