Welcome back to another installment of the MeltedJoystick Review Round-Up. Here’s what our staff has reviewed since last time:
Nelson’s Reviews:
After last quarter’s extremely short supply of staff reviews here at MeltedJoystick, Fall seems to have allowed things to ‘fall’ back into place. I focused on playing through some of my shorter games (or games that I thought would be shorter) while the staff plugged-away collectively at both the epic MMO undertaking of “Dragon Nest” and the local undertaking of “Dragon’s Crown.” And we managed to finish them both! On the whole, I ended up playing a lot of good-but-not-quite-great games this quarter, with only one breaking the 4.5 star barrier.
“Bastion” – 4/5
“RAGE” – 4/5
“PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale” – 2/5
“Dragon’s Crown” – 4/5
“Dragon Nest” – 4/5
“Glory of Heracles” – 2/5
“Bioshock” – 3/5
“Anodyne” – 4.5/5
“Okamiden” – 4/5
Chris’ Reviews:
Chris continued to give his PlayStation 3 a lot of attention this fall. He managed to complete two of that system's biggest recent exclusives while also knocking out a meaty multi-platform game. Of course, Chris would wither and die if he didn’t get a regular dose of eye-bleed-inducing horror and awfulness, so he spent an unhealthy amount of time playing “The Binding of Isaac.”
“The Last of Us” – 4.5/5
“Dragon Nest” – 4/5
“The Binding of Isaac” – 4/5
“Dragon’s Crown” – 3.5/5
“PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale” – 1.5/5
“Bioshock Infinite” – 5/5
“Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch” – 4/5
Nick’s Reviews:
Nick continued his track record of being a lazy bastard and didn’t write reviews for either of the co-op games the MJ staff played this fall, nor any of the games we have played over the course of the last three years that he hasn’t submitted yet. He also has about a half-dozen irons in the fire with games he has started simultaneously. Multiple games played at once never get finished, and on the off chance they do get finished, the experience is frequently tarnished by lack of cohesion. I don’t know what he’s thinking.
Featured User Review:
This quarter’s featured user review winner is Jonzor (again), for his review of “Borderlands 2.” Jonzor gets the nod this quarter for his in-depth look at a sequel that the MJ crew will hopefully be able to comment on next quarter. We appreciate the heads up! His review includes both an effective comparison of the game to its predecessor as well as some opinionated pontificating (though he would be better served by making his veiled trolls against me a little tougher to spot).
